Mississauga grew fast from the 1970s onward. You'll find 1970s and 1980s detached homes and semis in Erin Mills, Meadowvale and Malton, newer subdivisions in Churchill Meadows, condo towers around Square One and many condo townhouse complexes.

What I often look at here

• Wiring and plumbing by decade: some homes from the late 1960s and 1970s have aluminum branch wiring, and homes from the late 1970s to the 1990s may have poly-B water lines.
• Kitec plumbing: common in homes and condos built roughly between 1995 and 2007.
• Original furnaces, roofs and windows: in many 30 to 40 year old homes they're near the end of their life. I note ages so you can budget.
• Condo townhouses: what's inside the unit and what belongs to the corporation, so you know what to look for in the status certificate.
• Condos near Square One: unit systems, windows, balcony doors and signs of leaks.
